For handicapped people the various winter sports offer a superb playground. The use of modern parabolic skis with the existing equipment offers performance & sensations that are comparable with skiing & snowboarding along with an easy use of ski lifts. Handicapped facilities in ski resorts have made vast progress & are constantly improving allowing many to enjoy winter sports along with friends & family.
As used in many ski resorts, the Tandem ski allows heavily handicapped or even those with no co-ordination or the very fragile to sample the pleasures of gliding on the pistes in complete safety and thus to enjoy the pleasures of winter sports by using foot-operated skids, the pilot is able to brake as required. Directional control is by a handlebar system that inclines the edges of the skis. The Tandem ski allows the pilot to help the passenger discover a great variety of pistes, just like a non-handicapped skier, even on the most popular slopes.
A government approved raising system allows the use of the tandem ski on ski chairlifts, the passenger remaining seated in the tandem ski during the ascent.
A safety brake, connected to the system by a safety line, automatically halts the Tandem ski in the event of the pilot falling. The safety brake is frequently used as a parking brake.
The Tandem Ski pilot is legally obliged to undertake & pass a Government approved training course.
